Addition of the Arkansas Diamonds Program

The Baseball Academy of Arkansas is proud to announce the addition of the Arkansas Diamonds program. The Diamonds will be a select elite level squad that will travel throughout the summer and fall months to some of the regions most competitive baseball tournaments.

Central Arkansas' own Pat Harrison will be the head coach of the team. Pat is a former NCAA National Champion player and coach at the University of Southern California and the University of Oklahoma. Harrison also worked with hitters in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. Pat currently serves as the Director of Baseball Instruction at Diamond Sports of Bryant, Arkansas.

Opening Weekend

Thanks to each of you for a great opening weekend at UALR. We were blessed with the best weather in months and enjoyed nearly 25 innings of baseball.

It is such a great sight when almost 75 teenagers choose to play fall baseball on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, in place of all of the other options our players have in front of them. It is decisions like that, that continue to give our organization purpose. We are very proud of the guys and look forward to a great season.

Arkansas Baseball Academy Starts New Tradition

In conjunction with the Arkansas Travelers and the General Manager, Pete Laven, the Arkansas Baseball Academy Seniors take the field to help with "Season Ticket Holders Appreciation Day" at Dickey-Stephens Park. Afterwards, the seniors got to meet and hangout with a few of the players from the Arkansas Travelers. Rocket Summer Showcase Champions

The ABA Summer team captured their second tournament championship yesterday at UALR with a 7-3 win over Conway in the Rocket Summer Showcase. The team started tournament play on Thursday and had games each day en route to the finals. Wins in the tournament came over Jonesboro, Fayettville, the Arkansas Angels, and finally Conway.

Congratulations to the team as you continue to set a great pace as the ABA's first ever summer program.

Michael Smith-Perfect Game Showcase

The ABA would like to congratulate catcher Michael Smith on his addition to the Perfect Game Showcase next week in Atlanta, Georgia. Smith, out of Whitehall and UA-Monticello signee, will be playing with Team Canada after receiving a recommendation from his catching instructor here in Arkansas.

Team Canada will be playing in the Perfect Game tournament with over 100 other teams from around the United States.

ABA Wins Benton Tourney

This weekend the first ABA Summer team went 4-1 en route to a championship game victory over Conway Sunday afternoon.

The ABA lost the 9:00 AM game on Saturday and then went on to win two games Saturday and two more on Sunday to take the tournament. A slow offensive start ended in an explosion of hits and runs scored in the final 4 games. Tournament wins came against Catholic, Mayflower, Benton, and finally Conway.

Congratulations to the team and well done. ABA will be traveling to Jonesboro next weekend to take on Conway, Wynne, and Vilonia before beginning bracket play on Sunday.

ABA fans can catch some great baseball on Monday as the State Tournament resumes.

Many of our ABA players will be in action as Bryant takes on Catholic in North Little Rock at 6:30; meanwhile Benton will take on Searcy, in a rematch of last years state title game, at 6:30 at Benton High School. In the 4:00 game at Benton, Sheridan will meet Lake Hamilton.

Many other ABA players will begin state tournament play as the 3A tournament gets underway after rain forced a delayed start in Harrison.

Good luck to those of you left and congratulations on a great year to those of you that ended your season too early.

Kolton Lane & Dillon Miller

Congratulations are in order for two ABA pitchers.

Kolton Lane of Arkansas Baptist High School recently won his team's first round contest against Riverview held in Bauxite. Aside from a dominating performance on the mound on Friday, Kolton also reached a very impressive personal goal. Lane exceeded 100 strikeouts on the year with at least one game still to pitch in the state tournament. Great job Kolton.

Dillon Miller of Woodlawn won both the first round game and the championship game of his team's regional tournament. Woodlawn enters the state tournament with only two losses on the season.

Arkansas Baseball Academy players (past and present) make news the weekend of April 16-18, 2010

Blake Leisenring had a good day at the plate for North Little Rock versus Bryant.

There was a misprint in the paper on Blaine Tanner's unbelievable hitting performance against Little Rock Central High. Blaine had an "inside the parker" homerun, but the paper emphatically stated that he hit "all singles." Unfortunately the person keeping the scorebook, scored the play wrong because the outfielder came charging into to try to catch Blaine's line drive hit, but missed played the ball and never put a glove on the ball. When the outfielder missed the ball by diving at the line drive, the ball rolled to the fence and allowed Blaine Tanner to get a rare "inside the park" homerun.

Former Arkansas Baseball Academy player (Chris Driedric) actually hit a homerun out of the park at Hendrix. Mitchell Powers had a phenomenal day at the plate as well.

The Arkansas Baseball Academy to partner with the Miracle League of Arkansas

The Arkansas Baseball Academy will help with volunteering with the Miracle League beginning this May. The staff at the academy believe this will fit in with one of the three mission statements, which is Team Building. The staff believes that this will become part of a way for the student-athlete to give back to the community with the understanding that we can't always take, but instead we need to give back.

On Monday, November 9, 2009, The Arkansas Baseball Academy held its first annual Fall Banquet for the players and parents of the Academy. It was a good event that was to bring everyone back together one last time for fellowship and thanks for the good times in the Fall.

Looking back on the Fall, it was one of the most trying for the Arkansas Baseball Academy staff trying to keep everything on schedule with one of the most "wet" Fall's on record. The Arkansas Baseball Academy only last one full weekend and that was the Louisiania Monroe Weekend, but the staff is determined to pick that tournament up next Fall.

The Arkansas Baseball Academy played a round robin with the Arkansas Select and Arkansas Express and were able to play both squads on the fields of Ouachita Baptist (Rab Rodgers Field) and at Henderson State's field (Clyde Berry Field).

This was a great opportunity for both squads to be seen by both schools, which is very convenient for Fall baseball and travel. The Arkansas Baseball Academy squads split the day by beating the Arkansas Select and the Arkansas Express.

We were happy to accommodate both the Arkansas Select and the Arkansas Express, so both Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist can get a chance to see all Arkansas players.

The First Annual Arkansas Baseball Academy Fall Showcase at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock, Arkansas is a huge success!

After the monsoon that the Central Arkansas Area received on Friday, October 9, the showcase was still a success. The weather was suppose to be sunny with the temperature in the upper 60's, but it was cloudy and cool with the highs in the 50's. Even though the conditions were not ideal, 90 players from around the state showed up to show their talents on the field at beautiful Dickey-Stephens Park (where the Arkansas Travelers play). The Arkansas Baseball Academy coaching staff were very excited to have 10 in-state college coaches and the area scout for the New York Mets make it out to watch juniors and seniors from the state of Arkansas show their skills.

The Arkansas Baseball Academy would like to thank Frank and Barbara Battisto from the Dixie Cafe for providing food for the hospitality area for the college coaches and the scout from the New York Mets. We would also like to thank the sponsors: MK Distributors, Martinous Flooring, The Mortgage Bank of Arkansas, and Banana Graphics.

We would especially like to thank Greg Johnston, the Park Superintendent/Head Groundskeeper, for having the field near perfect playing condition on the field with all of the wet weather Central Arkansas received the past week as well as Pete Laven, the general manager for the Arkansas Travelers, for giving us permission to play at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock.

Arkansas Baseball Academy continues their annual trip to Crowder College

The Arkansas Baseball Academy began the day competing against their in-state prospect team rival, the Arkansas Express. Chris Oldner from the Arkansas Baseball Academy pitched very well against the Express, but some miscues in the outfield helped the Arkansas Express to pull the game out. CJ Engle, senior catcher from Benton, had an exceptional game behind the plate and at the plate. CJ Engle threw runners stealing and was clocked at 1.9 from the pop of the mint to his release to second base. CJ Engle was 2 for 3 with 2 triples, but CJ and Chris Oldner's effort fell short against the Express losing the game 10 to 7.

The Arkansas Baseball Academy came back at the 3 o'clock game to face their friendly in-state rival the Arkansas Select. The game started out as a bang from the Select as jumped on the Arkansas Baseball Academy early, but CJ Engle came back in the second game to pitch and ultimately quite the Select. As CJ Engle took control of the game from the mound, the Arkansas Baseball Academy went to work offensively by piling a total of 21 runs at the end of the game. The game was halted after the sixth inning with the Arkansas Baseball Academy winning the game 21 to 12.

Back on the Field at Arkansas Tech

After the cancellation at Lyon College, the Arkansas Baseball Academy played a doubleheader against the Arkansas Express playing 2 nine inning games. The two organizations agreed to play a showcase style game, which would theoretically showcase the skill of each player off to the Arkansas Tech coaches. After the first game, the showcase style of play seem to work okay, but by the middle of the second game it became evident that the showcase style game really doesn't work.

The one thing we learned from that experience is that we will never attempt to do style of play again. We feel that it is better to play the game of baseball because we felt that we lost teaching points of the game and lost the focus of just having fun playing baseball.

All-in-all, the players looked good and the Arkansas Tech coaches were very complementary toward the players of the Arkansas Baseball Academy. We definitely would like to thank Coach Dawson and Coach Titus from Arkansas Tech for being gracious enough to allow us to play on their field.

Next up: Saturday, October 3rd at Crowder Junior College, Neosho, Missouri; Sunday, October 4 at University of the Ozarks.

Saturday, September 26, the game versus Lyon College's Junior Varsity team has been postponed until October 24 due to the most unusual wet and rainy Fall. Coach Holmes called to say they haven't been able to get on their own field because for the past two weeks it has been under water.

Gametime Academy's tournament at Louisiana Monroe has been cancelled due to heavy rain. This was a new tournament and college to visit for the Arkansas Baseball Academy, but there is always next Fall.

On Sunday, September 27, the Arkansas Baseball Academy will play a doubleheader versus the Arkansas Express on the campus of Arkansas Tech University and this game will consist of 2 nine inning games.

Arkansas Baseball Academy is tested at Arkansas State

The Arkansas Baseball Academy played the best of the best from the Midwest at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The tournament had three organizations competing to showcase their players in front of college coaches. The three organizations were the Arkansas Baseball Academy, St. Louis Gamers, and Dulin Dogdgers from Memphis.

Coach Matt Whiteside from the St. Louis Gamers said that he was impressed with the talent and play from the Arkansas Baseball Academy. Coach Whiteside also runs the Team USA - Midwest team, so he was part of the selection process for choosing Jackson Lowry and Taylor Wallace to be a part of Team USA in the Midwest.

Next up for the Arkansas Baseball Academy: Arkansas Baseball Academy is heading to Monroe, Louisiana to play in a tournament hosted by Gametime Academy out of Shreveport, Louisiana.

Getting started for the Fall of 2009 at UCA

The Arkansas Baseball Academy starts the Fall of 2009 season with a doubleheader with Pulaski Tech's Club Team on the University of Central Arkansas' baseball field on Sunday, September 6 the weekend of Labor Day. This is the first year that Pulaski Tech started baseball and they will do it by started having a club team. We are excited to see that the local two year school of Pulaski Technical College is starting a baseball program, and we are hoping that it will grow into a full fledged Junior College Baseball team.

The games were a success as both teams competed hard as the coaching staff from UCA looked on with hope of finding a player or too for next years squad.

Next: Arkansas Baseball Academy will travel to Jonesboro, Arkansas to play in a tournament that is being put on by the St. Louis Gamers out of St. Louis, Missouri.

Jackson will be representing Team USA (Midwest) in North Carolina from Thursday, September 17 through Sunday, September 20. Congratulations Jackson on making the cut to represent Team USA from the Midwest.

Chris Oldner a junior from Lake Hamilton has been selected to be a participate for the Under Armour Showcase Tournament in October. Congratulations Chris on making the team.

Taylor Wallace a sophomore from Little Rock Catholic made the 16 and under Team USA team from the Midwest. Taylor also has been ranked by perfect game.

DYLAN OWEN is announced as a newcomer at UALR

6-0, 184 lbs., RHP // Little Rock, Ark. (Catholic HS)//Arkansas Baseball Academy

Owen went 6-1 with 52 strikeouts over 46 innings pitched as a senior at Little Rock Catholic HS. He earned All-Conference accolades in 2008 after helping the Rockets to a conference championship.

Norwood on Owen: “Dylan is a local kid that had an outstanding high school career. He will help us in the bullpen.”

Gametime Academy (Shreveport, LA) hosts Arkansas Baseball Academy in final weekend of the Fall season of 2008.

The first game didn't start until 2pm on Saturday, October 25 because of the ACT that was given on Saturday morning, so both teams were having to share players as a practice game type of situation until all of the seniors could show up and play a game with both teams having a full roster. When the second game began at 4:30pm, Daniel Brundick, a senior at Little Rock Catholic, gave a strong outing and giving way to Brock Ashford, a senior from Central Arkansas Christian, to get the save.

On Sunday, October 26, both teams played a nine inning game that saw Gametime Academy play almost a flawless game to defeat the Arkansas Baseball Academy.

The Arkansas Baseball Academy finished the Fall season with 7 wins and 6 losses agianst its peers. The Fall season was highlighted with 2-0 lead in 3 innings against Texarkana Junior College, almost defeating Lyon College JV team, and continuing the winning tradition of having a winning record against other high school prospect teams.

Prospects of Arkansas Baseball Academy hold their own among peers

On Saturday October 18, Hendrix College was gracious enough to let the Arkansas Baseball Academy host a showcase tournament that included the Arkansas Select from Western Arkansas and Gametime Academy from Shreveport. All three teams played two games a each on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, all three teams got to play in front of coaches from several different colleges around the Arkansas area. Outside of the Hendrix coaches, the other coaches were from the University of Central Arkansas (Conway), Central Baptist College (Conway), and Williams Baptist College (Walnut Ridge, Arkansas). The college coaches, fans, and parents got to see Arkansas Baseball Academy defeat Gametime Academy (9-3) and Arkansas Select (8-2).

On Sunday October 19, the Arkansas Baseball Academy took a loss in the first game against Gametime Academy that was the worse loss against an opponet that is their peers in the Academy's history (17-5). The Arkansas Baseball Academy came back to defeat the Arkansas Select (3-2).

STEADY RAIN HAULTS GAME AFTER SIX

We are excited to play the new junior college baseball program from Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock at Historic Lamar Porter field, but the rain had a different idea. We had planned to play one squad 4 innings and the other squad the last 4 innings, but with the steady rain I tried to get everyone a good look as well as work in at their respective positions. It was good enough for Coach Regan of Arkansas Baptist College to see what players he was interested in talking to for next years class. I felt it was good to have a scrimmage than another practice because we need to get as many college looks as possible before we end the fall season in the next two weeks.

We continue play next weekend at Hendrix when we host a showcase against Arkansas Select and Gametime Academy out of Shreveport, LA.

BEAUTIFUL DAY ALLOWS FOR BASEBALL TO CONTINUE AT A TOP 5 D-II PROGRAM AT OUACHITA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY
Arkansas Baseball Academy continues fall season play at one of the top 5 NCAA D-II schools in America at Ouachita Baptist University. The academy played a 2 inning red/blue scrimmage at 11am before facing Arkansas Select in a doubleheader that began at noon. The 2 inning scrimmage was to allow for us to look at a few pitchers.

The first game the Arkansas Baseball Academy Red faced off against the Arkansas Select. Dylan Owen from Little Rock Catholic started the game going 4 innings and allowing only 1 earned run. The red strikes first and never relinquished the lead. Tyler Walker from Woodlawn got things started by drawing a lead-off walk, which allowed Drew McMahan from Little Rock Catholic to knock him in with a RBI single. After a pass ball and a wild pitch later, Mitchell Powers hit a deep fly ball to left field for sacrifice fly that would bring McMahan into score. Arkansas Baseball Academy Red went ahead after the first and never looked backed and eventually winning the game 6-3.

The second game was the Arkansas Baseball Academy Blue team against the Arkansas Select. The second game was the best pitching and defensive game for the Blue team so far this fall, but the offense didn't have the power like it has had. Josh Shelton from Little Rock Catholic started the game and had a good game going 3 innings and only giving 2 earned runs. Collin Wilkins from Pulaski Academy and Josh Klapp from Rosebud combined to shutout the Arkansas Select from the rest of the way, but it wasn't enough as the Arkansas Select beat the Arkansas Baseball Academy Blue 3-1.

Oct. 4 - Crowder Showcase @ Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri

UNEXPECTED RAIN DOES DAMAGE TO SHOWCASE
The showcase at Crowder between the Academy, KC Bullets, and BC Baseball Academy was cancelled due to unexpected rain earlier in the morning. Coach Lallemand, the head coach at Crowder, his staff, and his players work diligently toward getting the field ready to play on as all of the teams had driven several hours to play baseball to be recruited. I felt that with our players and parents that made the trip, that we needed to do something productive. After speaking to Coach Lallemand, we decided to have a showcase for whoever wanted to stick around. The BC Baseball Academy decided to leave and only five players from the KC Bullets decided to stay and showcase for Coach Lallemand and his staff.

Coach Lallemand and his staff set up a simulated infield in the outfield so that we could take a simulated infield/outfield. After the simulated infield/outfield, we had the pitchers throw a bullpen off of the game field mound while position players took ten to twelve hacks in the cage then went through the static drill. Even with the negative of the rain, we still accomplished our mission of getting our guys a chance to be recruited and this was as one-on-one with a college coach as you can get.

Sept. 30, 2008 - The Texarkana College Game

THE TEXAS TWO-STEP
Tuesday, September 30, 2008 was a rare scheduled game during a weeknight in the fall. The Tuesday night game against Texarkana was the only available date I was able to get with Coach Bolt's top junior college squad. Even though we had only nine players, we played them tough for 6 innings and the players did alot of positive things to have a good showing against a top 20 junior college team. We lead earlier by going up 2-0 after the first 2 innings of play with the middle of the line-up (Tyler Rytima - Catcher from Benton; Nolan Wilkins - Catcher from Pulaski Academy; Dylan Owen - Pitcher/Infielder from Little Rock Catholic; and Josh Shelton - Outfielder/Pitcher from Little Rock Catholic) getting things rolling for the Academy. Dylan Owen started the game on the hill, while striking out 4 and giving up 1 earned run in 3 innings of work. Josh Klapp from Rosebud continued the tough pitching against the talented hitters from Texarkana. The game even though the players from the Academy lost they showed heart, determination, and fight against a talented junior college team in Texarkana.

Sept. 27, 2008 - Red/Blue Scrimmage @ Harding University

THE SHOW MUST GO ON!
Arkansas Baseball Academy had a scheduled game against another Arkansas High School Prospect team, but they cancelled on Thursday, September 25. After many discussions with Coach McGaha (the head baseball coach from Harding University), Coach McGaha said that we need to play because we couldn't help that the other team cancelled two days prier to the scheduled playing date. Coach McGaha went out of town, but his assistant, Coach Haring, scouted our players as we played a scrimmage game.

The scrimmage was a success because Coach Haring has interest in four to five of our players, and he said that he will get in contact with them. The day was not a total loss of not playing the other team from Arkansas because we accomplished our mission of instructing, exposing, and getting our players recruited by a collegiate team.

The foremost mission of this website is to help high school juniors and seniors use their talent of sports as a vehicle to shape their lives. The goal is to use the vehicle of sports as a means to get an education, build leadership, and lead by example.

The Goals:
1) If a student athlete has the talent and desire to play college ball, it is the purpose of this organization to find them a place in a college to play. The college program can range from NJCAA, NAIA, NCAA Div. I, II, or III.

2) We will coach a student athlete not only in the sport they play, but also in the process of getting into a college with all of the regulations set by the governing bodies of that division. This organization can also coach student athletes, coaches, and parents on other avenues in the transition of high school to college life.
